The Four-Door-Flat-Pack-Farce.

INDOORS is a hilarious misadventure of mishaps featuring four neighbours going through incredible lengths just to avoid each other.

Using unapologetically nonsensical spectacle these clowns ask us to examine the relationships we have with our immediate neighbours and the ones further afield.

INDOORS is a highly energetic and entertaining show, performed in and around a beautifully designed and ingeniously constructed set of four rotating and oscillating doors.

INDOORS is a three-person, four-door farce. Think quick entrances, quick exits, slapstick, highly exaggerated characters, clowns, comedy, live music and a rip-roaring good time. We are in need of more farce, we need comedy that highlights the ridiculousness of ourselves, comedy that increases our ability to laugh at each other, at our own misgivings, our failures and our mistakes. Let us ridicule the systems that are in place and enjoy the ridiculousness of our reliance on them. Farce allows us to realize the absurdity and nonsense that is our society and sets us on a path to be able to change that.

INDOORS is a piece about community. It’s about our desire to be connected to everyone and everything and the fears that stop us from doing that. By interacting with a large set-piece of doors we can comically present our world that is similar to our own. We can encourage our audiences to address loneliness and to make connections with their immediate neighbours and inspire them to think of their community as larger than then end of their cul-de-sacs or streets. In a time when our attitudes are closing just as fast as our borders, we want to keep those doors open.

Our project recognizes the importance of making arts and culture accessible to all, including underserved communities. We will be collaborating with an engineer to ensure our set-piece structure of four doors will be collapsible, tour-able and functional. INDOORS is designed to be a mobile production that can travel to various neighbourhoods, schools, and community centres, ensuring that those who might not typically have access to live theater can experience the joy and wonder of the performing arts.

INDOORS will debut in Rochester, NY and also in Ithaca, NY but is not just a one-time production. We plan to build a sustainable model for the future. By engaging with local schools, community centers, and collaborating with other arts organizations, we will establish a lasting presence in the region. The revolving set of doors can be used for multiple productions, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the project.

Our production is committed to celebrating the rich cultural diversity of our region. The story of togetherness and community presented in INDOORS resonates with people of all backgrounds. It highlights the universal themes of connection, isolation, and the human experience, making it a truly inclusive and diverse cultural offering.

INDOORS is not just an isolated project but an opportunity for collaboration. We are open to partnerships with other arts organizations in the region, including local theaters, schools, and community groups. This collaborative approach enhances the vitality of the arts community and extends the reach of our project.

The need for INDOORS is evident, especially in the current cultural and social context. The pandemic accelerated our tendency to isolate within our homes, disconnect from our neighbors, and close ourselves off from the outside world. This project addresses this pressing need to reconnect with our communities and neighbors. It prompts
